Sunrise Ruffalo’s Favourite Things

Get your fix of wellness and things that inspire us.

Sunrise Ruffalo hunts for beautiful objects and curates them in her store Sunny’s Pop. Wife of Oscar nominated actor Mark Ruffalo and mother of 3, she lives and works in the tiny town of Callicoon in upstate New York.

Ceramicist: Kelly Cain is one of the most talented people working with clay today. Every piece that comes out of her Catskills studio is a showstopper for any kitchen or dining room. Her sense of colour, shape and timeless design are always en-point.  I try to buy one of everything that comes into the store, much to my family’s delight.

Rugs: Some of the most beautiful rugs in the area can be found at Buck Brook Alpacas. It’s a small family-owned farm that’s harvesting fiber from their own heard of alpacas and turning it into beautiful and uniquely crafted rugs. Each one is unique and slightly different in colour. And so incredibly soft to the touch! Truly a treat for your feet.

Flatware: The most popular flatware in our store is made by Ann Ladson. She uses vintage silver flatware and adds custom hand carved handles to the pieces. The hand forged bronze and sterling silver flatware dining sets would be considered heirloom pieces to be passed down from generation to generation.

Gallery:  If you’re in the area. you have to check out Gavin Brown‘s up-state enterprise, Uncle Brother. It’s Gavin Brown... what more can I say?

Local clothing designer: Pamela Mayer from Mayer Wasner is my go-to for local fashion. She uses ethically-sourced materials and fabricates all her clothing in upstate New York. She’s a true supporter and champion of artisans and the local economy. Japanese and Liberty of London fabrics are used for her limited edition capsule collections. Must haves! She has a very minimal aesthetic, you can go from work to gardening to mothering in one outfit. What more can you ask for?!

Bathroom accessories:  You've never seen a nicer toilet bowl cleaner until you've seen the one we sell at Sunny’s Pop. It’s a beautiful Swedish number with a birch handle, bristles that can handle any mess, and a beautiful concrete bowl to hold it in place.

Fine art:  I can’t say enough good things about this artist, Mathew Solomon. His medium is porcelain. His imagination is boundless. His work contains references to nature, death, rebirth, sexuality, maximalism, minimalism, 18th century Dutch Masters, Japanese netsuke, you name it, he’s expressing it in his art.  I’ve never seen anybody approach clay in the way that Matt does.

Best thing about living in upstate New York: The wildness of it, the river, the rolling hills, the sense of community and friends that we’ve made.
